Clicking an article opens a modal, but you have to close it in order to open other articles from the main list. Maybe throw in some keyboard shortcuts to move to the next article once we have the modal open?

Yes, that is already planned and started so we should have that in a couple of days.

This has been implemented now. You can use left and right arrow keys to go back and forth.
